Archbishop Martin received Pallium in Rome

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin received his appointment on 26 April 2004 as Archbishop of Dublin.
His Holiness Pope John Paul II gave the Pallium on Tuesday, June 29th 2004 solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul to Archbishop Martin.
Although this wonderful occasion took place nearly six years ago we decided to leave it on the page for all to see.

Baptisms

We have a Baptism Team who organise Baptism in our Parish.

All our Baptisms will now take place on the first and last Sundays of each month.

A Baptism preparation meeting takes place usually during the last week of the month. (Dates for the Preparation Meeting and Baptisms are to be found on the Baptism Application forms).

Forms are available for booking Baptisms and Preparation Meetings at the Sacristy or the Parish Office. One month’s notice is required for Baptisms. Baptisms take place after the Sunday 12 o'clock Mass.

Baptism Certificates are issued in the Parish Office between 10am to 12 noon Monday to Friday.

The Parish Office may be contacted between 10am to 12 noon Monday to Friday at 01-4994203.

Ballinteer Family History Society

The FINAL lecture of the Society took place on Thursday November 16th. 2006. .........

We regret to inform you that the Ballinteer Family History Society which was formed in April 1993 held it's FINAL Lecture in November 2006.

The Group meet in Conference Room on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each Month from 2.00pm - 3.00pm.

2nd and 4th Wednesday of each Month from 7.00pm - 8.00pm

Blessing of Pets

               

A special ceremony of the blessing of pets took place at the
12 noon Mass on Sunday 25th October '09.

The Mass was celebrated by Fr Brian O'Sullivan, Glasthule and our own Fr Richard concelebrated the Mass.

Canon Battelle retired as Parish Priest of St. John the Evangelist, Ballinteer on the 15th July 2006.

He has been succeeded by Very Rev.Fr Richard Behan, Moderator.

Ballinteer Parish Cell Community

Our Parish is one of many in Ireland (North & South), U.K. and worldwide where Cell Communities come together for a time of prayer and praise. We strive to live the Christian life with the help and support of each other.

Cell meetings are happening in our Parish for the last fifteen years. There can never be too much prayer and it is now widely recognised that parishes benefit greatly from dedicated prayer efforts. Cell Communitity is an open forum where all are welcomed.

Children's Church

Our Little Angel

The Children¹s Church takes place during the 10.30 a.m Mass on Sunday's in the Conference Room.


The Children's Church is a programme in the parish geared towards the 4-10 age group. It has been running for over twelve years and its purpose is to make Mass an enjoyable and meaningful experience and to build faith. The focus of the 15 minutes centres on the readings of the day. Using storytelling, drama and music the scriptures are developed to bring home the message in a way that is easily understood by the children.

We will continue every every Sunday where possible.

We invite and encourage parents to bring their children along. Please feel free to stay with your child if they are not ready to attend alone.

Community Cenacolo
Freedom from Drug Addiction

Is an addiction controlling and ruining your life?

Would you like to discover hope and joy?

Community Cenacolo is an association founded by an Italian Nun, Sr. Elvira Petrozzi in 1983 who wanted to give her life to God through helping drug addicts and yound people who have lost hope.

Today there are over 50 houses spread throughout Italy and the rest of the world.

In December 1999 the first house in ireland was established near Knock, Co.Mayo.

Meetings take place every Wednesday Evening from 7.30pm at St. Peter's Parish Centre, St. Peter's Church, Phibsboro, Dublin 7.

The Little Lights Community meet in the Conference Room of the Church of

St. John the Evangelist, Ballinteer at 3pm on the 3rd Sunday of each month.

Here we meet together, to talk together, to play together and to pray together.

All Welcome

Faith & Light was founded by Jean Vanier & Marie-Helene Mathieu in 1968 to bring together people with a learning difficulty, also their families and carers and also people who would like to be their friends.

They form a community and meet regulary in the belief that the person with the learning difficulty is really important with something to contribute to society and to the Church. and has the capasity to develop both spiritually and humanly.

Folk Group

The schedule for the Folk Group singing at the 12 o'clock Sunday Mass until the end of April 2010 is listed below. Thank you for your continued support. .....

The Folk Group sings at the 12.00 o’clock Mass on the first and third Sunday of the month, from September to June inclusive.

We rehearse twice a month, on the Wednesday, previous to the Sunday on which we sing. Rehearsals take place at 8p.m. in the Conference Room.

We also participate at other Church services throughout the year as follows:
Christmas and Easter Penitential Services.
Good Friday prayer around the Cross.
Christmas and Easter morning Mass.

We sing a wide range of Folk Group hymns and are constantly updating our music. Recently, we had a workshop where we spent the day learning new material. We intend to run this annually as it proved to be a great success.

If you are interested in joining our Group, either as a musician or a singer, please contact us through the Parish Office at: Tel 4994203.

John Furlong

John Furlong died peacefully on Wednesday 9th December 2009 at home.
His remains arrived in the church at 5.30pm on Friday 11th December.  
John's funeral Mass took place on Saturday 12th December and burial afterwards to Kilmashogue Cemetery.

will evoke fond memories of John with his family and parishioners.

The Venerable Matt Talbot

Who was Matt Talbot?

Matt Talbot was a working class Dubliner born in the middle of the nineteenth century.

He was someone who through a profound religious conversion overcame his addiction to alcohol and went on to live a reformed life of heroic sanctity.

He is the model and inspiration for all those struggling with addictions of various kinds and for those who work with them.

New Shrine for the Word

A new stand has been erected in the place where the Baptismal font used to be.
This space has now become a shrine to the Word and it is in the form of an eagle with its wings outstretched, holding the Bible (The Word of God) on its back to signify the majesty and divine inspiration of what is found written in the Bible.
