Pilgrimages
In the earlier years, Maurice and Antoinette O’Connor, and Tony and Dolores Mathews organised many groups to Lourdes and Knock.
In recent years the Parish has included other Shrines of Our Lady and the Lord: Holy Land in 1998; Shrines of France in 2000; and Rome and San Gioranni in 1999, 2001 and 2003. In 2002, a special pilgrimage was made to Prague and Poland where the Shrine of the Divine Mercy was visited. In 2003 a group also visited Fatima while Joan Redmond organised a trip to Knock. These pilgrimages have proved a wonderful help to parishioners’ prayer and spiritual lives. It brought people together sharing the same accommodation, the same table and the same altar.
All our lives are pilgrimages—from birth to death, from the earthly to the spiritual, all roads lead to God. We wander like the people of Israel in search of the promised land. We know that living in faith we will one day reach our final goal of the all-loving God.
Seeking Help from Sacred Scripture
‘I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the wonderful
things you have done. I will sing with joy because of you; I will sing praise to you Almighty
God’ Psalm 9 1 : 2
Psalm 9 reminds us that we should always praise the Lord for His great goodness to us. When
we pray petition prayers we should always end our prayer with praise and thanksgiving. It's
never easy to thank God for the difficulty or trial we are praying about, but this psalm urges
us to thank God for the problem and also to thank Him for the solution to the problem. Psalm 9
also asks us to share with others the wonderful things the Lord has done for us, and whenever
possible to join in songs of praise remembering that singing is ‘praying twice’.
May praying with this psalm inspire us to greater peace and joy in our lives.
