30th Anniversary of the Church
Monday 8th December at 7.30 pm
In December we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of the
Church of St John the Evangelist, Ballinteer. It will be a great
occasion of joy and thanksgiving for the Eucharistic Presence among us.
On 8th December, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, Mass will
be celebrated by our area Bishop, Dr. Martin Drennan and the local
clergy. We all have an opportunity to join in the celebration of the
30 years.
This will be a Mass of Thanksgiving for all the graces we have
received. A Mass of Remembrance of all those baptised, who received
first penance and communion, those confirmed, married, anointed with
the sacrament of orders, all who offer continuous daily prayer in our
church, those anointed with the oil of the sick, and those buried.
Also a remembrance of all the sacrifices needed to build the church
and to maintain it over those 30 years. It will be a plea to continue
to maintain the faith received under its roof until death and to be a
witness to it in the Parish and in the home.

Danger of Skateboarding
There is a real danger to parishioners coming and
going to the church, caused by skate-boarding in the immediate vicinity
of the church.
To avoid a repeat of some of the recent unsavory incidents the gardai
will be asked to help with the situation.
Seeking Help from Sacred Scripture
Whoever goes to the Lord for safety, whoever remains
under the protection of the Almighty, can say to Him, "You are my
defender and protector. You are my God, in you I trust" Psalm 91 1 : 2.
Calling to mind Psalm 91 can really make a difference when we are
faced with fearful situations or feel threatened or anxious or are
acutely aware of our limitations. If we turn our thoughts to God at
these times or in these situations we have the best possible help and
we will be amazed at how our reactions will change. Perhaps we will be
able to listen instead of immediately going on the defensive and maybe
regretting later how we handled the particular situation.
If we 'go to the Lord for safety' then we can confidently expect
that our trust in the Lord will grow stronger and we will then experience
peace of mind we never thought possible. This does not mean that we
won't have challenges in our lives on a daily basis but it does mean
that we no longer feel alone and that real hope is only a thought away.
