Pastoral Renewal in Parish

The restoration of the Church and presbyteries is now almost complete. The Church and houses have been reroofed. The Church has been rewired, new fire and security systems fitted, the cctv has been upgraded, the porches will be made secure with ornate metal gates, the steps made safer with hand rails, the spire has been painted and repositioned. The houses have had new PVC windows fitted at the rear, the heating system has been upgraded and part of the pathways resurfaced. The total cost was Euro1,600,000 of which Euro850,000 has already been paid, the balance to be paid over the next ten years. While we now have a very good structurally sound building, it is timely to consider some form of pastoral renewal in the parish. To that end we have organised a mission in March from Saturday 18th to Wednesday 22nd with Eucharistic prayer in the homes from Monday 13th March to Wednesday 15th March. On the Wednesday nights of March we have organised talks by an Augustinian team lead by Fr. Kieran O'Mahony OSA and Fr. John Byrne OSA in the Oratory immediately after evening Mass until 9 p.m. It is our hope that the spirit of the renewal will be carried forward into our Holy Week and Easter celebrations.

We invite you to take part in these events and we invite especially those who may not be attending church regularly to take this opportunity to return to the practice of their faith.

Commemorative Masses

On Sunday, 12th February, members of the Faith and Light community attended the 5.30 p.m. Mass.

On Sunday, 26th February at 12 noon it was the turn of the Order of Malta.

On Saturday, 25th March at 6 p.m. Ballinteer Male Voice Choir are planning to attend and on the following Saturday at 6 p.m. 1st April, it is the turn of the Cell Community.

Other groups are most welcome to come and talk to one of the priests.

Ballinteer Active Retirement

Founded in January 2005, we now have close to 100 members. We meet each Wednesday morning from 10.15am to 12.00 noon for coffee etc. at Ballinteer St. John's GAA Pavilion. New members very welcome.

Our activities include keep fit exercises, book club, scrabble, Tai-chi, social and cultural outings, Irish speaking lunch on Fridays, art and computer classes, indoor bowling, away trips.

Altar Servers

The parish has had a long tradition of faithful altar servers. As First Holy Communion time approaches a special invitation is extended to boys and girls who have made their First Holy Communion to offer their services to the Parish.

New or not so new in Ballinteer

Welcome to all those who have come to live in Ballinteer. We hope you will be happy and make new friends.

To you and to those who are resident for sometime, but who are not involved, we extend an invitation to join a Parish group. God has no hands but ours.

Back in the Church

A parishioner writes- 'Isn't it good to be back in the main Church after the recent re-roofing and refurbishment. It is good to be able to take up my usual position. It is nice to have St. Padre Pio snugly back in his usual corner. Also to be able to easily light one's candles. (Does John ever forget to keep up the supply?) Now the Church is warmer than ever before and it looks splendid. Thanks to all those who worked on the refurbishment but particularly to those whose generosity made it possible.'

Canon's Grave

In January, we gathered at the 12 noon Sunday Mass to bid a last farewell to Canon Sean Carey, former P.P. The main concelebrant was the Canon's nephew, Fr. Dermod McCarthy.

After Mass it was nice to see so many parishioners stay on in spite of heavy rain to see the Canon's ashes interred beside the Oratory.

The grave is marked by a temporary cross pending erection of a suitable memorial. As you pass by, stop and pray.

Did you know

That there is Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the Oratory from 10 am to 7.30 pm each Friday followed by Benediction. You are welcome to call in even for a few minutes as you pass by the Church.

Ballinteer Parish Cell Community

Our parish is one of many in Ireland (North and South), U.K. and worldwide where Cell Communities come together in small 'home' groups once a fortnight for a time of prayer and praise. We strive to live the Christian life with the help and support of each other.

Cell meetings are happening in our Parish for the last fifteen years. There can never be too much prayer and it is now widely recognised that parishes benefit greatly from dedicated prayer efforts. Cell Community is an open forum where all are welcomed.

If you are new in our parish or would like to 'Come and See' a Cell meeting please call 01 4953182 without delay.
