Fr Gay Slattery served in Ballinteer from 1996 to October 2001. He quickly endeared himself to people by his very pleasing personality and good humour. Each Sunday his Homily was inspiring and deeply appreciated by the congregation. In fact some parishioners made a point of finding out what mass Fr Gay was celebrating and attended to hear his homily.
Fr Slattery was appointed Parish Priest of St. John the Baptist, Clontarf, Dublin 3 by Cardinal Connell and took up his appointment in October 2001.
A Special
Mass was held in St. John the Evangelist Church, Ballinteer At 7:30pm
on Friday 5 October 2001
To
celebrate Fr Slattery's
Elevation
to Parish Priest of Clontarf Parish
Fr Slattery arrived in our Parish on 14 September, 1996.
Gay attended Blackrock College and was later ordained to the
Priesthood in March 1968. He studied for a Doctorate in Freiburg
in Switzerland. From 1973 - 1995 he was a Professor of Philosophy in
Clonliffe College. After a sabbatical year in Jerusalem he was
appointed as a Curate in the Church of St. John the Evangelist,
Ballinteer.
He quickly endeared himself to people by his very pleasing
personality and good humour. Each Sunday his Homily was inspiring
and deeply appreciated by the congregation. In fact some parishioners
made a point of finding out what mass Fr Gay was celebrating and
attended to hear his homily.
A great tribute is due to him for the way he fulfilled his pastoral
activities in Ballinteer while he lectured each week in UCD, Mater Dei and
the Milltown Institute of Philosophy.
He has made a real and lasting contribution to the spiritual
development of our Parish and community and we owe him a tremendous
debt of gratitude.
We pray that he will be blessed in the future as he moves to the Church of
St. John the Baptist, Clontarf.
Slan agus beannacht Fr Slattery, we will pray for you.
L to R the late Fr Jim O'Sullivan, Fr Paddy Battelle P.P.,(now Canon Battelle P.E.) Fr Gay Slattery and the late Canon Carey
